Linacre Methodist Mission has completely renovated their premises using money totalling £900,000 providing first class community facilities right at the heart of the neighbourhood. Lifts have been installed giving full disabled access to the one hundred and five year old listed building.

Community Catering

You can gain catering experience by working through a programme to increase your knowledge and catering skills in a working kitchen environment. These skills are transferable into daily living skills, which will help to make you more independent at home.

You will also be able to volunteer to prepare food at the lunch club for older people who use the community centre and also buffets for conferences held at the centre. This will be to Food Standards Agency requirements.

Voluntary Work

Working in the community with other community groups, offering a shopping service for local people and those using the lunch club.

Undertaking simple jobs for older people for example helping to hang curtains or change light bulbs or other tasks.

Information Technology

We can teach you Information Technology and Office Skills. Here you can create your own portfolio of work you have completed and use it as evidence when building your C.V.

Creating documents and templates in Microsoft Word.
Sending and receiving emails with attachments
Using the Internet to access websites and do research
Printing
Using a laminator
Pamphlet and brochure making
Address label making and printing
Using a camera and editing photo's
Using Microsoft Publisher to make cards & pamphlets
CD & DVD burning

Evening Activities

Through our experienced staff team we are able to offer a variety of team and community building activities; this can be through hosting entertainment afternoons for the older people in the community or workshops.

Buffet Service

We offer a competitively priced buffet service for all groups booking courses and conferences at Linacre Mission Neighbourhood Centre. The service can also be delivered to groups outside the centre and the service is available evenings and weekends.

Creative Dance

Using music and movement to produce contemporary performances that encourages the creativity of the performers and is accessible to all who take part. We also have evening workshops available.

At Linacre we also have sports and leisure facilities. You have the use of a gym, play table tennis, use the Wii or surf the web.

Listen up people!

We have Music & Music Appreciation session where we examine a personal response to music, including any emotions, likes and dislikes. We listen to a wide range of music and people are encouraged to bring in their own choice of music and describe what it means to them. We include music quizzes, TV themes and videos.

Boccia session.

We also play an indoor bowling game similar to Crown Green Bowling called Boccia. This is great for team building, being in total control of your play, encouraging leadership skills by acting as Captain and developing hand to eye co-ordination and motor skills. Oh, and it's great fun too! We're hoping to form a team from those involved and play in tournaments.
